I've always loved sharing my passion for tech. With over a decade of navigating the complex world of software engineering, I've learned that it's more than just coding; it's about problem-solving, innovation, and building communities.
Inspiring the next generation
When I was invited to mentor at Rails Girls Melbourne, I saw an incredible opportunity to give back. This wasn't just about sharing my knowledge; it was about inspiring the next generation of women in tech. I wanted to break down the stereotypes and show that a career in tech can be exciting, fulfilling, and accessible to everyone.
My talk, "Behind the Clouds: A Peek Into the Life of a Software Engineer," was designed to demystify the tech world. I shared stories from my journey, the challenges I've overcome, and the incredible rewards of working in this field. I wanted to ignite a spark in the participants, showing them that they have the potential to achieve great things.
It was wonderful meeting participants and mentors from different walks of life and tech journeys. We were able to create an environment of learning, fun and many firsts. I cannot stress enough how much spark events like this add to people testing out the waters in tech and even to the seasoned folks.
About Rails Girls
Rails Girls is a global, non-profit volunteer community that aims to give tools and a community for women to understand technology and to build their ideas. They organise and support events to make technology more approachable and get introduced to the world of technology.
As part of their mission, Rails Girls organises free workshops worldwide. Participants dive into the world of Ruby on Rails, guided by experienced mentors.

Mentoring at Rails Girls was incredibly rewarding
Mentoring at Rails Girls was incredibly rewarding. Watching the participants grow in confidence as they tackled coding challenges was inspiring. To see the excitement in their eyes as they grasped new concepts was truly fulfilling. Creating a fun and supportive learning environment was essential, so I added a quiz to my presentation with reinteractive Duckies as prizes – a small way to say thank you for their engagement.
