Mikel Lindsaar

Mikel Lindsaar

Mikel is well known in the Ruby and Rails community as a blogger, the author of the Ruby E-Mail handling library, mail, and for his extensive work on Rails ActionMailer component. Mikel is a member of the Ruby on Rails commit team and is in the top Ruby on Rails contributors world wide. He is also a past elected Committee Member of the Australian Web Industry Association.

He decided to create reinteractive in 2010, having developed Ruby on Rails applications since 2006.

Outside of Rails and work, he does quite a lot of pro bono volunteer work and likes flying his radio controlled helicopters at crazy speeds, often into walls.

Helen is a Chartered Accountant based in Sydney with over 10 years of professional accounting experience gained from both public practice and commercial environments in Australia.

When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and baby daughter. If there is any time left over, she also loves travelling, reading, cooking and salsa dancing.

Kane is an experienced General Manager and project manager having run eight businesses and managed numerous projects across many different industries. He graduated from the Deakin University MBA in 2014 and was awarded the Brookes Scholars Medal for top student.

Kane lectures and has developed courses for the Deakin University Business School. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Grow Foundation, a charity that supports children with special needs. In his spare time, Kane loves spending time with his three young girls.

Originally a desktop applications programmer, Ben found he preferred the fast-feedback cycle of web programming. Beginning with perl in the dying days of last century, he passed through the trials of ASP and survived the PHPocalypse until finding relief in the awesomeness of Ruby and Rails in 2010.

Happiest when solving problems, he aims to delight users with his epic attention to detail, whether it be the thoughtful UX or the well-tested code-base beneath.

When not solving problems or crafting frankly-over-the-top sentences, he also enjoys cooking, running, listening to podcasts, and spending time with his wife and 5 (srsly?!) kids. Oh and he quite enjoys ascii-emoji too - ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

Darryl comes from a mechanical trades back ground - He is a qualified Fitter and Machinist. Darryl started scratching his IT itch on Wang Mini Computer Systems in the mid 80's

Since then he has been involved in the IT industry in one form or another, including creating and running ran a Computer Repair business for 6 years.

When he's not working, he enjoys reading and writing Sci-Fi books. Watching Sci-Fi movies and is a self-confessed, die-hard "trekkie" Darryl has a combined family of 9 (adult) kids and 13 grand children (and still growing) - Family takes a lot of time.

Rachelle attended the first Brisbane Rails Girls in 2013. When she saw how warm and friendly and welcoming the Rails community was, she knew she had to be a part of it. Now, as Community Manager and co-organiser of Rails Girls Brisbane, the community that initially attracted her to Rails is both her full-time and her out-of-hours job!

Rachelle is a self-confessed Crazy Cat Lady and is actively working to extend her title to 'Crazy Chicken Lady' as well. She loves all things health and fitness but cannot pass up a good crusty-top muffin or any cake that is smothered in cream cheese icing.

New to Ruby on Rails, Monique has worked in the corporate IT space for the past 5 years and has over 10 years’ experience in marketing and team management. Her organisational and administrative experience brings diverse skills to her role assisting management with the implementation of policy and orders within the organisation.

Monique is an animal lover, avid movie watcher and on her days off she enjoys swimming laps at Bondi Icebergs and indulging in retail therapy.

Ryan Bates needs no introduction in the Rails community. Based out of Southern Oregon, he’s been working with Rails since 2005.

Ryan has a passion for teaching, which led him to create railscasts.com - a series of screencasts that have helped many developers find their feet and understand the magic of Ruby on Rails. In 2013 he took a break from web development but re-entered the scene in 2017 working at reinteractive.

When he’s not coding he enjoys playing piano, bowling, and board gaming with family and friends.

Charles is an experienced web developer from New Zealand who loves the fast paced, ever evolving web. He began his journey with Ruby in 2011 — he was hired as a C# developer, but on his second day was handed a MacBook Pro and tasked to rebuild the security scanning tools in ruby.

Now as a full-stack developer his passion is in the backend where he can often be found tinkering with new DevOps techniques.

Charles also enjoys the community side of ruby, he has been a Ruby NZ Committee Member since 2016 and was recently appointed President.

Now he loves adding javascript front end frameworks to his Ruby on Rails applications and basically working in the entire stack, from the configuration to the pixel perfect css.

She has nearly a decade of experience in UX and Interaction Design, acquired through working on a variety of projects that include custom-built online experiences, social platform engagement, ecommerce, mobile and complex back office solutions.

She's a highly analytical person with a strong desire to develop engaging, intuitive user experiences and would optimise everything from cluttered websites to the position of a poorly placed coffee maker in the office.

When she's not doing anything UX related, you're likely to find her travelling, travel planning, taking pictures of native Australian parrots or trying her hand at learning a new language.

Tim started his career in software development while in the New Zealand military in 1989 - projects included Artillery fire prediction systems, Meteorological zone tracking, Land survey functions. At that time he thought rubies were things you used to bribe your girlfriend with and rails was the the hardest thing on the obstacle course.

After leaving the military he fulfilled his desire to fly helicopters and attained his Private Helicopter Pilot License.

Tim then moved into the market research arena and lead a team that developed and maintained in-house software to administer market research projects and mystery shopping surveys. In 2009 Tim found the magic of Ruby on Rails was and has been developing with it since and never looking back. He is very passionate about software development and the shift to Ruby has fuelled that passion.
