Is you web application accessible for all users?

Website Accessibility Review

With an Accessibility Review, we check your web and mobile application against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and make recommendations to ensure your site is fully accessible to all, including the 20-25% of people with disabilities.

Is your web or mobile app accessible for everyone?

Many of us have no issues getting around or performing day-to-day tasks. We take for granted our ability to navigate the physical world and our easy access to technology. Yet for a person with a disability, day-to-day tasks can be more challenging. While building codes mandate key features such as ramps, elevators, priority parking and accessible bathrooms ensuring easy access, web and mobile applications are another thing entirely.

Businesses spend weeks and months developing a software project, but accessibility is often overlooked. And not all developers are experienced enough to provide the necessary advice.

When sites are built with accessibility in mind, all users have access to the valuable information and functionality that your website provides. Apart from maximising your potential customer base, excluding entire segments of the population can result in legal ramifications.

A byproduct of addressing the accessibility of your website or application is that you will likely discover that your Google page ranking improves. This is because search engine crawlers can’t see or hear, and they only use a keyboard, similar to many people with disabilities.

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 covers a wide range of recommendations for making Web content more accessible.

Following these guidelines will make content accessible to a wider range of people with disabilities; including blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity and combinations of these.

It will also often make your Web content more usable in general.

The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect.

Following the guidelines and making a website accessible for everyone can be daunting. There are a lot of things to check, and a wide variety of people with different capabilities to consider. Getting a report from an Accessibility expert can greatly simplify this process. We help navigate the comprehensive guidelines from the WCAG in reviewing your application.

What we check for in an Accessibility Review

1. Is the application Perceivable for everyone?

  • Can everyone get the information from your site, including people who are partially or completely blind?
  • Can they still get the information with a screen reader?
  • Can the 4% of the population who are colourblind see everything on your site?
  • How about people with partial or complete deafness?
  • Do you have a video on your site but haven’t added closed captions?

2. Is the application Operable for everyone?

If you usually use a mouse to navigate websites, you might not be aware that some people have difficulties with motor control and aren’t able to use a mouse. They might instead use a keyboard for navigation. People who use screen readers also rely heavily on their keyboard.

Accessibility is not just about disabilities. You user may have accessibility requirements simply because they are using a tablet or mobile phone. This presents issues such as:

  • Are the buttons far enough part so they can touch the correct one?
  • Are the links too close together resulting in the wrong link being clicked?

3. Is the application Understandable by everyone?

  • Can someone, who hasn’t seen your site before, easily figure out how to navigate through it?
  • Are there enough instructions so that everyone can achieve what they want to do with ease?
  • Can they read and understand the content, including people who may have trouble reading and digesting information?

4. Is the application Robust?

  • Can your site be used on all browsers and devices?
  • Does it take more than 10 seconds to load on older machines or in places with slow internet?
  • Is your setup following website guidelines for clean HTML so screen readers can process it?
Accessibility is the degree to which anyone can access and use a website using any web browsing technology.

Accessibility Rating

Websites are assigned conformance levels ranging from A to AAA, depending on how many of the accessibility criteria are satisfied. This is determined using the WCAG standard.

Our Accessibility Review will determine where your application stands.

For a low fixed fee of $3,950 + GST, we will review each of the four categories above and provide you with a detailed report and checklist of what aspects of your website need improving and suggested solutions of how to do that.

Once your team has implemented these solutions (or we can do it for you), we will give you a free re-check to confirm your accessibility level. We will issue you with an Accessibility Conformance Confirmation. You can then use the WC3 WAI Web Accessibility Initiative logo for your rating level (A through to AAA)

Please note that it is recommended you get periodically re-checked, especially if you add new features or make significant changes to your web or mobile application.

Altura Learning decided to engage reinteractive’s user experience expert

Altura Learning’s strength was in their content and so they decided to build a portal allowing larger international providers to access the training materials without worrying about which LMS they used.

Creating the rapid prototype resulted in a solid blueprint and base from which we could forecast more accurate project costings, which is essential when requesting approvals and expenditure from a board.
