Last night we held our second Development Hub event at General Assembly, Sydney. The room was packed with 20 developers and mentors looking to improve their RoR skills and help others in the Community.
Our mentors Leonard Garvey, Geoff Hodgson, Mikel Lindsaar, Andrew Harvey and Tian Chen jumped around the room helping Railers, as they worked away at their own personal projects. To keep everyone going, we were treated to pizza and drinks by our friends at Ninefold :) You can check out our photos on our Facebook Gallery.
For us, Development Hub is all about creating a physical space where Railers can come to learn new features, share their advice, suggestions and experiences in a nurturing and stimulating environment. We want to give people from outside of Ruby on Rails the opportunity to find out what it’s like to be part of this awesome Community, where we share projects, and give away our time and answers for free.
With the feedback from our attendees, we have no doubts that the Development Hub will grow far bigger and better than it was last night. Here is what some of our attendees had to say:
“Good. Nice to be able to show up and work, but ask questions whenever necessary” - Gerard Devine
“It’s really good and quite surprising that you do it for free” - Rudy Lee
“That was very helpful! It was good that the help could be at the different levels of the attendees. It seemed that everyone was getting great help at their level.” - Glenn Morrow
“Good, the expert assistance helped!” - Andrew Grimm
“Great meetup! Thank you very much to all the people of reInteractive, especially Leonard and Geoff! ... I enjoyed it. It’s a good way to meet people while I improve my skills” - Agustin Gambina
“Feel like my knowledge grew exponentially... Very impressed with the all the people like Andrew and Len willing to lend a hand.” - Jesse Black
“I think it’s a great idea and very beneficial” - Kane Walter
“Enjoyed the opportunity to build on the intro to Ruby on Rails provided at Installfest. It was great to get expert help regarding issues I had working through the subsequent reInteractive blogs. Solving the issues would have been much harder without the assistance of Mikel and his team.” - Eddie Gock
"That was great. I did some more coding afterwards and just the couple of questions I had answered made me more confident of my coding and happier it was going in the right direction. Very helpful. Thanks everyone." - Glenn Morrow
“Excellent environment to build upon the work undertaken during InstallFest.”
