Here at reinteractive, we do all we can to help grow the Community and get more people loving Ruby and Rails as much as we do. That’s why we’ve run the InstallFest and Development Hub initiatives and sponsor events like Rails Girls and Hack Nights.

We want these newbies to know that even after they’ve come along to our events, the Community still loves them! We want them to come back, learn more and get involved! So, to encourage more newbies to be part of our growing Community, we’ve given three lucky winners tickets to this year’s RubyConf AU!

We’re excited to give Peter, Yoong and Zaki the opportunity to join Ruby developers from around Australia and the world for the only Ruby focused conference in Australia.

What are Their Stories?

Peter He

“I just started Rails two months ago. I have been building my own project and just recently got a job as a Junior Rails developer.

I attended the Rails InstallFest hosted by reinteractive. I really loved that event, it helped me so much with installing all the necessary software. I met some awesome people there as well. Talking to them gave me a clear idea of various aspects of Rails and how I could get started.

Having never been to the RubyConf, I’d really love to get the chance to go and see what it is like and learn!

Peter’s reaction when being told he was a winner:

“I can’t express how happy I am. Thanks very much again!”

Zaki Akhmad

“I attended the Ruby on Rails InstallFest in Melbourne in November last year. I am new to web development, and I was hoping that by attending the InstallFest it could help me speed up my understanding of Ruby and Rails.

Of course, I couldn’t become a RoR expert in 3 hours, but the InstallFest showed me where to go next, including the recommended reading materials. I learned not only about RoR, but also other software development tools that every developer needs to master, such as version control: git.

The most important thing I got out of attending the InstallFest was getting in touch with the RoR community. The event made me realise how very welcoming and helpful the RoR Melbourne community is. If I had difficulties during the InstallFest, all I needed to do was raise my hand and a mentor would come over and help me. The InstallFest motivated me and made me realise that one of the things you can do to become a better developer is teach and mentor others.”

Zaki’s reaction when being told he was a winner:

“Wow, awesome! Can’t wait for my first RubyConf experience.”

Yoong Kang

“I attended my first Rails Installfest event in the middle of last year and that was actually my first introduction to web development. It was great to have volunteers around to ask questions. I was very impressed with the community! I have since used the CodeSchool discount and completed all the Ruby courses online.”

Yoong’s reaction when being told he was a winner:

“That’s awesome! Thanks.”
