We’re excited to announce that this year’s RubyConf AU reinteractive ticket winners are Yoong Kang and Zaki Akhmad. Each have of them has their own great story about how the reinteractive InstallFest has helped them on their Rails journey. We’re thrilled to give them both the opportunity to attend this year’s conference.

Their Stories

As part of the entry conditions to enter our RubyConf AU ticket giveaway competition, we asked entrants to tell us how one of our reinteractive initiatives has helped them achieve more while learning to become a developer. Here are our winners awesome responses:

Yoong Kang

“I attended my first Rails Installfest event in the middle of last year and that was actually my first introduction to web development. It was great to have volunteers around to ask questions. I was very impressed with the community! I have since used the CodeSchool discount and completed all the Ruby courses online.”

Zaki Akhmad

“I attended the Ruby on Rails InstallFest in Melbourne in November last year. I am new to web development, and I was hoping that by attending the InstallFest it could help me speed up my understanding of Ruby and Rails.

Of course, I couldn’t become a RoR expert in 3 hours, but the InstallFest showed me where to go next, including the recommended reading materials. I learned not only about RoR, but also other software development tools that every developer needs to master, such as version control: git.

The most important thing I got out of attending the InstallFest was getting in touch with the RoR community. The event made me realise how very welcoming and helpful the RoR Melbourne community is. If I had difficulties during the InstallFest, all I needed to do was raise my hand and a mentor would come over and help me. The InstallFest motivated me and made me realise that one of the things you can do to become a better developer is teach and mentor others.”
